Rocket Boy

Recently Tyler has discovered rockets.  That is almost all he talks about these days.  He and I have spent many hours watching model rockets on YouTube and looking at how much a model rocket that flies would cost.

The picture posted above is Tyler on the computer designing his own (Apollo) style rocket in Microsoft Word.  Note the cone shaped capsule  at the top, combined with multiple stages and then the thruster nozzle at the bottom.  You might have to zoom the picture in for a better look.

At the bottom is a video clip of Tyler and a balloon/string rocket he made.  Although the quality is not the best, watch as is streaks across the living room and into the wall, a total distance of about 20 feet and  traveling uphill.

A Day In Burlington

One of the many great things about Wyoming is having the great outdoors so close by.  This afternoon I jumped in the car, drove about 40 miles west up to Upper Sunshine Reservoir, enjoyed the scenery, and caught some nice fish (two cutthroats up to 19 inches).  They took a red and white spoon. On the way home, the deer were out.  I'm guessing 300+ Mulies and Whitetails.  The deer in the picture and video are typical for around here.

Fort Burlington

Tyler and his friend Gideon built this log fort  near the school and right next to their forest here in Burlington.  They have had a blast over the last few weeks. The gray pipes represent cannons, and the blue material represent their flags.  I thought it was pretty cool that they built a room with a roof.  They sure are having a lot of fun.

Space The Final Frontier

Tyler's fourth grade class has been studying science.  A few days ago he came home from school and decided to build his own satellite from scratch with the aid of two aluminum soda cans taped end to end covered with tin foil, and two solar panels made of cardboard and toothpicks.  We thought it was pretty creative.

Update:  Julia tied for second place in Burlington Middle School during a math competition.

More Kid Stuff

Julia had the opportunity to be in a county wide Spelling Bee for all of the school districts.  She made It into the 4th round of 5 and earned the certificates posted above.  The second picture is of a home made paper and wood airplane that Tyler decided to build from scratch (no plans).  It kind of flies, and the third frame (Video) is of Tyler in the Color Guard for the Blue and Gold Banquet held tonight at the church in Burlington.  Just CLICK on the small black arrow at watch the colors be presented.

The Spotlight Dancers

Julia and Tyler decided to put on a Black Light Dance Show for us last night.  It took them a few hours to put everything together including make-up.  The top two photos are close-ups of them and the last two frames will play their routines.  In the last video the music is hard to hear so, turn it up.  Enjoy!  Just CLICK on the arrows of the two bottom images to view the video.

More Fun Stuff

I couldn't resist. Tyler decided to save a day old doughnut for his lunch tomorrow and wrote the note attached to the Tupperware container.  We are working on his spelling. The second photos is of Julia's desk in her room.  Last fall she made the pencil holder in 7th grade woodshop.  Not bad for a first time woodshop project.
